Doing more: My next-door neighbour told me about the Leamy's Project worker looking for participants and volunteers. I had returned from some time off due to surgery, and I was looking for activities I could do locally. I attended a social gardening session and the social cooking; both were on Friday and a minutes' walk from where I live.
Attending the weekly Sow and grow sessions, tasks varied and planting seeds, building raised beds and running a stall at community events. I helped build a community growing space. I purchased a small plastic greenhouse and started to grow different herbs and peppers.
'Being outdoors and doing new things was brilliant after being isolated for months'.
I kept on coming back which resulted in taking on a Lead Volunteer role, joined the Leamy's Management committee. As the project shared a hall with the Central Alexandria Tenants and Residents Association (CATRA), I met the Associations Chairperson and I agreed to join their committee too!
As the Leamy Foundation grew its project activities, I started working as a part time Community worker building Learn and Grow outdoor learning resources across schools and early learning centres across West Dunbartonshire. Two years later and getting help from the Leamy Foundation to seek funding, I am now work full time with CATRA as a Community project worker providing a program of social wellbeing activities.

In 2022, Angela helped to establish a new Traders Association and Community council in Alexandria and is currently establishing CATRA's first large community project 'Alexandria Wellbeing'.
'I am now doing things I never thought I would be capable of, speaking in front of large groups.'
